Senior Psychiatric Inpatient Treatment Program

Red River Hospital is the leading provider of inpatient and outpatient behavioral healthcare in Wichita Falls, TX. Our treatment services & specialized programs address drug and alcohol addiction and co-occurring mental illness.

About the Program

At Red River Hospital, we know how important it is for all patients to receive age-appropriate care. For this reason, we offer our geriatric patients specialized programming through our Geriatric Unit. This unit is designed to provide care for older adults whose recovery needs are impacted by limited mobility, cognitive impairments, and/or medical concerns. The treatment services on this unit are focused on helping patients achieve the highest level of autonomy possible, while also receiving the support they need to address the challenges that led to their need for hospitalization.

Individualized Care

We also provide specialized programming for senior adults whose needs are not impacted by certain physical and cognitive impairments. These patients can receive comprehensive care in our Active Seniors Program. In this program, patients have the opportunity to engage more fully in a variety of experiential activities, including role-playing, community reintegration, recreational therapy, art therapy, and more. These weekly experiential activities are scheduled as part of a full day of therapeutic services.

What to Expect

The treatment teams for both the Geriatric Unit and the Active Seniors Program are led by board-certified psychiatrists who have expertise in diagnostics and pharmacology. Additionally, all members of the treatment teams are highly qualified and have extensive experience in helping patients with issues related to self-care, caregiver compliance, activities of daily living, and behavioral issues that have been complicated by physical problems. As part of their overall plans of care, in both senior programs, patients will attend daily group therapy sessions, educational sessions, and leisure groups. These interventions provide our patients with opportunities for self-evaluation and a chance to practice life skills, both of which can help enhance their self-esteem and boost their sense of self-worth.
