ADMISSIONS | ASSESSMENT & REFERRAL SPECIALIST
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND REFERRAL
POSITION SUMMARY: The A & R Specialist is responsible for:
Communication- Practices customer oriented communication with prospective patients, family members and referral sources; Maintains effective communication with all hospital departments and personnel; communicates effectively with physicians regarding patients’ physical and mental condition.
Assessment- Through a systematic process of interaction with patient, the patient’s significant others, referral sources and the appropriate health care providers, collects, documents and analyzes data regarding the patient’s physical and psychosocial needs with a specific emphasis on determining the need for inpatient or outpatient levels of care in the continuum;
Documentation- Records patient information in a thorough, objective, accurate and concise manner for incoming calls, patient assessments, and admission paperwork.
Implementation- Maintains designated lines authority; functions within the policies and philosophies of the organization; works within budgetary constraints to include staff hours, use of overtime and use of supplies and equipment.
Age/Population Specific- Comfortable working with age groups from child to senior. Practices non-violent crisis intervention theory and techniques.
EDUCATION: Minimum, Associate’s Degree in Nursing, with BSN preferred, or a Master’s Degree in a Behavioral Health Discipline.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Texas Licensure as either an RN or Behavioral Health Clinician licensed at a Master’s level or higher, CPI Certified, CPR Certified
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 1year experience consisting of behavioral health/psychiatric experience as an RN or BH Clinician. Experience working with psychiatric patients of all ages preferred. Acute care psychiatric experience preferred.
STATUS: Full Time – Part Time – and/or PRN; Non-Exempt – Days, evenings, and weekends.
