NURSING | BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO:   DIRECTOR OF NURSING

POSITION SUMMARY:

The MHT is responsible for: Ensuring accountability for the quality of services provided; To provide direct patient care to elderly adults, who are diagnosed with psychiatric and/or chemical dependency disorders; to ensure the safety and well-being of these patients; to support the maintenance of therapeutic milieu; to ensure the patients’ safety and well-being. Treatment Planning- Participates in process (a ) helps identify patients’ problems, needs and strengths; (b) suggesting modifications to treatment plan based on observations of patients’ behavior; (c) providing input into discharge planning.  Participate in implementing patients’ treatment plans by: (a) monitoring patients’ progress; (b) communicating information regarding patients’ behavior to other members of treatment team; (c) maintains communication with patient, family members and referral sources in patients’ interest; (d) facilitates or co-facilitates didactic groups, community meetings, or drug or alcohol education groups; (e) encouraging and facilitating patients’ participation in therapeutic activities; (f) supervising patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment; (g) providing input during shift report; Help maintain the therapeutic milieu on the unit, including, but not limited to, facilitation of community meetings; Accompany and transport patients as assigned; Maintain patient, program, department and related documentation; Orient new patients to hospital, program, and milieu;  Carry out general nursing care assistance, appropriate to psychiatric and elderly patients, as assigned and supervised by nurse in charge; Maintains a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for patients; Carry out clerical and administrative assignment to support patient care and department and organization operations.

EDUCATION:

Associates and/or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.  Ideal candidates will have a related degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education or Nursing.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:

Certified Behavioral Health Technician preferred. CPI Certified within 30 days of hiring, CPR Certified within 30 days of hiring.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 1- 2 years experience in a human services discipline. Experience working in a behavioral health/psychiatric setting and/or inpatient setting preferred. Acute care psychiatric experience preferred.

STATUS:

PRN – various shifts; Non-Exempt
