Effective because it contains both oxycodone and acetaminophen, Percocet is a prescription painkiller that’s designed to alleviate the discomfort of physical pain. Whether taken for a short time or prescribed for a longer period of time, this medication can help a person heal faster and/or begin functioning again when pain is compromising his or her quality of life. However, since this medication is an opioid, it’s also one that may be habit-forming, and can lead to the formation of an addiction that can bring a whole new set of challenges to an individual’s life.

If you’re someone who believes that an addiction to Percocet is affecting many areas of your life, you may be in need of professional treatment if you want to live a sober lifestyle. In addition to being physically tolerant and dependent on Percocet, your ability to maintain relationships with others, your job responsibilities, your finances, and your capacity to enjoy once pleasurable activities may all be adversely affected if you are grappling with the abuse of Percocet. However, it’s necessary for you to know that things don’t have to stay this way. Typically available within addiction treatment clinics or other such centers, professional rehab services can be the answer you’ve been looking for.

How to Help a Loved One

Helping a loved one get treatment for Percocet addiction

As someone who cares about an individual who is addicted to Percocet, know that you can play an important role in getting this person the help that he or she needs at this critical time in his or her life. With your assistance, understanding, and compassion, you can take the following steps, and help to motivate your loved one to begin the rehab services that can save his or her life:

  • Collaborate with other loved ones to establish a safety plan for what to do in the event your friend or family member experiences an overdose. Make sure you learn about the signs of Percocet abuse so that you know when to put this plan into action.
  • Speak to addiction specialists in your area to learn about the kind of treatment that has been helpful to others grappling with a Percocet abuse problem.
  • Do some research to see if such treatment is located near your loved one’s home. Perhaps even call a few centers to learn about their admissions criteria and process so that you can pass this information on to your loved one at a later time.

Next have a conversation with your loved one, and be sure to discuss the following:

  • Your own concerns about his or her health and wellness
  • The benefits of seeking treatment
  • The treatment options that may help him or her defeat an addiction to Percocet
  • Your intentions of supporting your loved one before, during, and after treatment is complete.

Also, be sure to allow your loved one to share his or her own feelings about the prospect of seeking treatment. Make sure that you’re open to hearing what he or she has to say, and try to remain empathic for the duration of this conversation. If your loved one mentions certain concerns or reservations about getting help, do what you can to mitigate these worries.

By being as supportive as you can, your friend or family member may be more inclined to seek professional rehab services at a center or clinic, and end his or her abuse of Percocet once and for all.

Why Consider Treatment

The continued abuse of Percocet can potentially lead to liver and other vital organ damage. Additionally, the emotional pain and psychological issues that can manifest can certainly infringe upon a person’s ability to live an otherwise happy existence. Considering these sort of effects of Percocet abuse, its best to seek professional treatment as soon as you’re able. If making the decision to seek effective care is delayed, the resulting consequences may be far-reaching and start to impact not just your life, but your loved one’s lives as well. Types of Treatment

Types of Percocet addiction treatment offered at Red River Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX

Red River Hospital provides free assessments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These assessments are conducted by a licensed professional and then reviewed by another licensed team member or a supervisor. If it is determined that we will be able to fully meet the patient’s needs, one of our physicians will be contacted and the admissions process will begin. Our dedicated psychiatric staff and multidisciplinary treatment team provide medical management and various therapies designed to fully treat all of our patients’ needs. We utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques as part of our inpatient rehab program, including the following:

Detoxification: When patients come to Red River and are struggling with an addiction to Percocet, we may recommend a 5-7 day stay in our detox unit. Here, every individual receives 24-hour monitoring by a team of nurses as his or her body becomes cleansed of any toxic substances that are present. In many cases, detox is the first phase of care for those who are struggling with an addiction to Percocet. To learn more about this process, please see our detoxification program page.

Medication management: Medications may be used as part of the treatment process for treating Percocet addiction. This is especially true when the person is suffering from a co-occurring mental illness at the same time. All patients are seen daily by a psychiatrist in order to ensure that the medications that have been prescribed are working properly, and so that changes to said prescriptions can made as necessary.

Group therapy: Red River’s inpatient rehab programs are group-focused, with a variety of groups being held daily. Some of the topics that are covered in these groups include effective communication skills, appropriate assertive behavior skills, anger management, conflict resolution, relapse prevention, and medication management. On our geriatric unit, additional groups and activities are held in order to assist in reality orientation. Therefore, as an individual is working on recovering from an addiction to Percocet, group therapy will be part of his or her recovery experience.

Family therapy: At Red River Hospital, we believe that an addiction to Percocet affects more than just the person who is abusing it. For this reason, we are proud to offer family therapy sessions. We believe that if the family is not involved, then the changes that are made during the treatment process will not be carried over into the home environment. As a result, we encourage family sessions to occur on a regular basis in all units, which can be done via telephone if necessary. On our child and adolescent unit, at least one family session is required prior to the patient’s discharge.

Individual therapy: Individual sessions occur on an as-needed basis for all units except our military unit, where patients have a minimum of one individual therapy session each week.

Recreational therapy: Recreational therapy occurs at least once per day and includes activities such as physical therapy and yoga.

Daily school: Daily education is provided for all of our child and adolescent patients. There is an onsite school room, and lessons are led by our public school district’s teachers.

Continuing Care

Continuing care and levels of treatment for Percocet

At Red River Hospital, we begin planning for discharge the moment patients enter our hospital. This plan is consistently reviewed and updated throughout the individual’s stay so that when the time for discharge arrives, the patient is already set up for the next step in his or her recovery process. We believe that aftercare is a major part of Percocet treatment. We ensure that the unique needs of each individual will be cared for, whether that means stepping down into our partial hospitalization program (PHP) or our intensive outpatient program (IOP), or being provided with referrals for traditional outpatient services. For patients who require a structured plan in order to return to life’s daily routines, Red River Hospital also provides onsite therapy through our Pathways program, which is a clinic that provides coping skills training and supervised medication management. Whatever your needs may be, our caring and compassionate staff will make sure that you are comfortable and confident as you embark on your next stage of recovery.
